Pool Inclement Weather Policy

The Hartford Golf Club Pool
Inclement Weather Policy

Pool Phone: 523-5229  (Call during inclement weather for pool status)

As a matter of policy, the Pool Director has the authority immediately to close the pool facility in circumstances where the safety of members and guests is threatened. Only the General Manager and/or Clubhouse Manager have the authority to close our pools and pool facilities due to inclement weather (when not accompanied by lightning or thunder).

Electrical Storm Activity

If electrical storm activity is in the area, the Pool Director shall have the authority to close the pools and pool areas immediately.  Swimming shall not be allowed during severe weather warnings or when lightning has been seen or thunder has been heard.  If such dangerous weather exists prior to the daily pool opening, the pool shall remain closed until the dangerous weather passes. Should dangerous weather occur after opening, all swimmers will be cleared from the pool and pool area until swimming is permitted to resume. The pool may reopen 30 minutes after the last occurrence of thunder or lightning and radar shows no activity within a reasonable proximity of the pool. Threatening weather conditions occurring after 5:00pm and lasting longer than one (1) hour may warrant the closing of the pool for the day, in the discretion of the General Manager (or, in his absence, the Clubhouse Manager).

Low Attendance and Low Temperatures

On days when the weather is not conducive to swimming, the General Manager shall have the discretion, in consultation with the Pool Director, to close the pools early if attendance is poor.   The standard that shall apply is that the pools may be closed if there are 5 swimmers or less within a one hour time period and if the air temperature is below 65 degrees.  The pools may re-open on the same day if the temperature improves, in the discretion of the General Manager and assuming adequate pool personnel are available.

Rainy Weather
Pools will close if it is raining steadily for more than 60 minutes and there are less than 10 people at the pool.  Pools may re-open on the same day if the rain stops, in the discretion of the General Manager and assuming adequate pool personnel are available.

We ask that you please cooperate with the Pool Director and Lifeguards regarding this matter.
